The 10th Anniversary of the Hastings International Piano Concerto will take place on between 3rd & 8th March 2014. This prestigious event attracts hundreds of visitors to the town every year and is part of Hastings Musical Festival, which itself has been taking place for 105 years.
Over six days, the 44 talented pianists that have been selected from hundreds of applicants worldwide, will take part in a series of concertos for the chance to be one of just six semi-finalist. The musicians, all aged between 16 and 30 have been competing at events across the globe to showcase their talent to the very best orchestral musicians in the world, here in Hastings. The semi-finals held on Thursday 6th March at The White Rock Theatre will see each of the semi finalists perform a 25 minute repertoire of their choice in front of a panel of judges. This year the panel includes; Dina Yoffe, Siegfried Mauser, Peter Katin, Paul Roberts and special guest judge, Dame Fanny, Waterman of the Leeds international Piano Competition, who will decide on which two pianists, will go through to perform in the final.
First prize this year is a total of £10,000 and the opportunity to perform with members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Grand Finale on Saturday 8th March. The competition this year will be in honour of the late Sir Philip Ledger CBE, who helped establish the first competition in 2005 and worked as the chairman for four years.
