Although much missed by many from his days with ‘Jamie and the Jets’, Jamie Smart has been putting his time to good use, as this new, debut 5 track EP proves.
It’s very much a local affair too, with James Gulliver producing, mixing and playing drums, Otti Albietz proving distinctive backing vocals, and Del Guapo lending a hand in the mastering department.
All 5 self written tracks have a very radio friendly quality to them, especially opener and title track ‘The Road’.
‘Birds of a Feather’ and ‘Ruby’ both have a feel of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ album about them, and in good way too. Showing off, as they do, Jamie’s classy vocals and the more relaxed side of his songwriting. In fact, the whole EP has a nice laid back quality to it.
‘The Dungeon’ is possibly the best song here, but as with Mumm-Ra, there’s not a duff song to be heard. Why not give it a try?
