Hastings Rock Radio 2016

May the Rock be with you

Written By Johnny Anders

It’s May once again and apart from the Jack in the Green festivities and thousands of motorbikes invading our town, the month of May also sees the welcome return of Hastings Rock to the local airwaves.

Hastings Rock radio has been broadcasting most years now, since way back in 1993, and those regular broadcasts have become another part of the modern day Hastings calendar.
In actual fact this years radio broadcast started on Saturday, 30th April, which caught a few loyal listeners out, who were expecting a 1st May launch date.

As usual Hastings Rock is on the air for the maximum 28 days that they’re allowed to broadcast, from their studio at the Robert De Mortain pub on The Ridge in Hastings, and finishes at midnight on Friday, 27th May.

For the uninitiated the station can be heard 24 hours a day on 87.7FM in the local area, worldwide via the Internet, and also on the TuneIn Radio app for mobile phones and tablet computers. So there’s no excuse for not listening in.

As well as playing their usual fare of classic Rock music, including a whole raft of brand new tracks, Hastings Rock has always been a big supporter of local music during all of their broadcasts.

With that in mind there is a specialist Local Music Show, produced and presented by our Editor, Andy Gunton. You can hear that on Sunday evenings, during the broadcast, between 8 and 10pm.

There are also several other Specialist shows on weekday evenings, including Blues on Monday, Rock and Roll on Tuesdays, Progressive Rock on Wednesdays and a special Hastings Retro Rock show on a Thursday evening, featuring bands who played in Hastings during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. All of those shows are between 7and 9pm.

As in previous years Hastings Rock will be supporting and promoting the invaluable work of St Michael’s Hospice during their 28 days on the air.
This years broadcast has been sponsored by local business Booker and Best, which has enabled the radio station to come back once again.

Hastings Rock radio is staffed and run entirely by local volunteers and relies on the support of sponsors and advertisers to return every year.

The radio station has built up a very loyal, enthusiastic and supportive audience during its 23 years of broadcasts, many of whom tune in from across the world via the Internet.
