Hastings and Rother Music City - Open Meetings

Get Involved

Written By Andy Gunton

We are now well into Music Month, which lasts until St Patricks Day on 17th March, and we hope you’ve been enjoying the wide variety of musical events taking place in the Hastings area.

There’s certainly a lot to choose from!

All this is happening just as the official announcement was made telling the world that Hastings & Rother is now a Music City.

The brief ceremony took place during the UnConvention event at The Palace on 27th February. UnConvention was part of the wider Hastings Fat Tuesday celebrations.

So now that we are a Music City, what next you may ask?

Well, we want and need you to get involved. We want your thoughts, ideas and input, and we’ve arranged two open meetings so that you can express your feelings.

These meetings are open to anyone involved with the Hastings & Rother music sector and music economy, even if you’re ‘just’ a music fan.

Those meetings are as follows:

Thursday, 9th March at the De La Warr Pavilion, in Bexhill, between 5-7pm: DLWP Music City Meeting and

Monday, 13th March at The Palace, 37 White Rock, Hastings, also between 5-7pm.

Both meetings will follow a similar format, so there’s no need to attend both.

The meetings will give an overview of what the Music City idea is all about, how we got where we are now, and what we hope it will incorporate in the future.

There will then be a general discussion concerning what the strengths and weaknesses are with regard to music provision in the Hastings & Rother area, and what you’d like to see improved or built upon.

Just to clarify, the Music City idea aims to include all age groups and musical genre’s.

Part of our plans for the Hastings & Rother Music City is to recruit members for a Music Advisory Board.

This board will be a link between the local music community and local authorities, and ideally its members will be a cross section of people and professionals involved in the local music community.

We will be seeking nominations for the Music Advisory Board at the meetings.

If you would like to nominate yourself beforehand, please follow this link and fill in your details: MAB Nominations

If you would like to attend either of the open meetings please register your interest by email via: culture@hastings.gov.uk

This is so we have an idea of numbers.

Thank you for you interest and we look forward to seeing you at the meetings.

This is an exciting time for music in the Hastings & Rother area, and we want everyone to be a part of it.
